Hello Everyone! My name is Jennifer Jones. This is my "chapter 2" website, Hello Literacy. You might recognize the title, sort of, I also started my original website, Hello First Grade, a few years ago. I have been an elementary teacher for the past 16 years. I have taught 2nd grade and 3rd grade, but have most of my teaching years in 1st grade. I have taught in California, Florida and North Carolina. I am trained in Reading Recovery and have several Reading and Language credentials. I was a trainer for the Florida Reading Initiative for two years, teaching workshops on Reading Comprehension, Phonemic Awareness and Phonics, the Reading/Writing Connection and Reciprocal Teaching. I have presented at the Florida Educational Technology Consortium on Student-Led Conferences and Using Technology to Build Classroom Community. I have also presented at The Banks Street School in NYC as a part of the National Association of Lab Schools. I am now working out of the classroom at a new year-round school in Wake County, Lake Myra Elementary School, as the K-2 IRT (Instructional Resource Teacher) helping teachers utilize best practices, coordinating RTI (Response to Intervention) at our site and managing the training and implementation of AIMSwebto analyze student data to drive instructional decisions.
Although I love my work, I love my family more. My husband is also in education, teaching leadership courses at N.C. State in Raleigh. We have two daughters, 9 and 11, who keep us on our parenting toes - who ever thought growing up a digital native would present so many parenting challenges? It sure is different than when I was growing up!!!! They don't believe me! Since the girls are older and I have supported my husband through is Masters and Doctorate, I am beginning a Masters in Reading Education at ECU in the fall.
Thank you for all your comments and support through the years - as I may not add much content to this site, I am adding daily to my IRT site for the elementary teachers in which I support on a daily basis at Lake Myra Elementary.
My most recent endeavor has been the creation of my NC Teacher Evaluation Artifact e-Portfolio. With the introduction of the new evaluation instrument in North Carolina, there was no way on Earth I was going to be creating more binders, file folders and labels filled with reams of paper....so I created a digital portfolio where artifacts (which are mostly digital anyway) are linked under a tab for each standard...have a look here.
In January 2011, I started a new blog at www.helloliteracy.blogspot.com
